Align & Refine: Standing poses

Sunday, Sept 17 9:30-11:45am

Wanderlust Yoga

Focus: Join Jerry for a morning of building body intelligence and happiness from the ground up with standing poses. By properly aligning the bones we allow the muscles to strengthen in their proper place, creating happy joints for free and easy movement of the body. A variety of commonly practiced standing postures will be be broken down and looked at with the eyes of curiosity.

Take Away: Standing poses build intelligence and sensitivity of the legs and later the abdominal cavity and organs. Alignment is not the end of the pose, it’s the requirement for deeper exploration. The foundation laid with standing poses will lead us to the deeper levels of the yoga practice over the course of the teacher training modules.

This workshop has a teacher training modality: We will analyze multiple students postures as a tool to learn to observe different types of movement patterns we see as teachers that need to be tended to. Partner poses will be used to teach verbal as well as manual adjustments. We will approaching the body through the lenses of yoga, Ayurveda, and Chinese medicine.

Hip Opening: Seated Poses

Wanderlust Yoga

Focus: A favorite topic of mine, seated poses are relieving in so many ways. They have grounding effects and they are the foundation for a meditation practice.
Our goal will be breaking free the hips from years of sedentary life and unresolved issues in the tissues. We will explore seated sequences that show novices the path to freeing the hips up and push advanced students with fun variations of advanced seated postures.

Take Away: Loose hips.This workshop lays the groundwork for breaking apart tension & turning the senses inward, leading the mind towards single-pointed focus, concentration, and meditation.

Mastery of any topic takes 10,000 hours of dedicated practice. In this 5-day intensive with Jerry, you will take yourself closer to that goal in individual components of yoga and begin in ernest to master all things binding: from arm balances to standing poses and every-limb in between. You will learn drills, poses, assists and adjustments, and engage other methods of learning beyond the audio-visual to build a strong foundation and a path for your practice. You will walk away having explored, expanded and moved beyond limitations known and unknown. Discover the true potential of body-mind-spirit in expression of movement and freedom.

Prop-based Therapeutic Awareness Techniques

at Wanderlust Yoga

We will look at how yoga props can be used for bodywork techniques, including trigger point, active release therapy, and deep tissue massage. We will take the body through range of motion exercises in conjunction with props to build awareness in latent/sleeping parts of the body, uncover unknown sensitivities, and bring health to muscles, connective tissue, and joints. Using this awareness we encourage the yoga practice to develop in a harmonious manner.

Advanced Asana

What is “advanced asana?” In this workshop, we will discuss the different levels of yoga including geometric/physical, physiological, organic, pranic, sensory, and meditative. Through the lens of these levels we will explore a variety of postures that challenge both the body and mind.
